Vetting Process & Responsibilities

Joining the Ember Society as a volunteer is a commitment to our community's safety and growth. We follow a rigorous vetting process to ensure that all team members align with our mission and values.

Before taking on a volunteer role, applicants may be asked to:

  • Complete a volunteer application

  • Interview with Ember Society leadership, when needed

  • Provide references from within the rope or kink community who can speak to your character and values

  • Sign our Code of Conduct

  • Disclose any prior consent violations, criminal convictions, or bans from other organizations

Leaving out relevant information may be grounds for immediate removal.

Your role with Ember Society carries weight beyond events at our studio. We expect volunteers to uphold these values in the wider community too — at other events, online, and in personal interactions with community members. Being part of this team is a privilege, and it comes with real responsibility.

A Note from the Director

I have spent over 10 years working in nonprofit and civil service, and I’m proud to continue that work through community building and education. Organizing people, events, volunteers, and resources on a large scale can quickly become overwhelming with so many moving parts. Which is exactly why I created TenderBox.

TenderBox is my brainchild for volunteer and community management: a platform that combines volunteering, administration, education, communication, and value systems all in one place. Volunteers can claim shifts with the click of a button, hours are automatically tracked, education teams can easily share resources with TAs, Facilitators, and Instructors, and policies, reminders, and direct messaging are always accessible when needed.

My goal with TenderBox is simple: reduce burnout, create better organization and transparency, and give communities tools that actually support the people doing the work.
